The Minnetonka Yacht Club cordially invites you to participate in the 2012 Yngling Open North American Championship Regatta, to be held on the blue waters of Lake Minnetonka, Mn. 2012 marks the 130th anniversary for the Minnetonka Yacht Club.
This Notice of Race is intended to cover a miscellany of subjects relevant and/or important to the regatta. We suggest you keep a copy of it with you so that you can refer to it for social events, times, race schedules and directions. Please come and join us for a great time on the water and on land!
Liability Disclaimer: Sailing is an activity that has an inherent risk of damage and injury. Participants in this event are participating entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The race organizers (the organizing authority, race committee, protest committee, host club, sponsors, or any other organization or official) will not be responsible for damage to any boat or other property or the injury to any participant, including death, sustained as a result of participation in this event. By participating in this event, each participant, or in the case of minors, each participant's parent or guardian, agrees to release the race organizers from any and all liability associated with such participant's participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Rules
The North American Championship will be governed by the rules as defined in
· The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2009-2012.Including US SAILING Prescriptions
· The International Yngling Class Rules.
· The Notice of Race
· The Sailing Instructions
· If there is a conflict, the Rules Governing the 2012 North American Championship as indicated in the Sailing Instructions shall take precedence
REGISTRATION

• Open to: Paid members of the USYA or other National Yngling Associations
• Registration Deadline: August 1st• Registrations received after August 1st will be charged a $25 late fee and housing will not be assured.
LIFE JACKETS
All yachts are required to provide a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket for each crew member.
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing instructions will be available at registration and at the Skippers meeting on Friday, Aug. 10th Please plan to attend this important meeting with your crew. Any changes will be announced at that time.
CREW SUBSTITUTIONS
Yachts may race with two or three aboard, however the crew shall remain the same throughout the regatta unless permission to substitute, add or delete crew members is granted by the Protest Committee.
SPECTATOR BOATS
Spectator boats maybe available if needed. They will leave the Yacht Club 30 minutes before each race. Please bring your own life jackets, foul weather gear, sunscreen, hats and refreshments.

BOAT LAUNCHING & MOORING
Launching: Thursday Aug. 9th noon.-6:00 p.m.
The MYC has a complete clubhouse and launching facility. Please bring your own lifting cable, anchor, and 25 feet of line. Trailer parking will be in an area ¼ mile from the launching facility. Taxi service will be provided each morning to the mooring area. Please remember our taxis are volunteers, please be courteous.
HOUSING
Housing is available on a first-come first-serve basis to those competitors requesting it.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The schedule of events is approximate and may change to fit wind and weather conditions. Races will be scheduled at the discretion of the racing committee to permit completion of 9 races. Three completed races are required to determine the North American Championship.

Liability
The Organizing Authority or any other party involved in the organization of the event will accept no liability whatsoever for any personal or material damage (including, but not limited to death, injury, consequential damage, etc.) sustained prior to, during or after the regatta.
Haul Out Restrictions
All boats must be afloat by 0900 on August 10th and must remain afloat until the completion of the last race unless permission to float or haul is granted by the Protest Committee. Local boats may continue to use their normal mooring (including lifts) but no bottom maintenance will be allowed unless permission is granted by the Protest Committee
Measurement
All eligible boats may undergo measurement of hulls, spars and sails, as well as equipment (notably safety equipment) checks at any time during the regatta, in accordance with the International Yngling Class Rules. If signaled, boats must proceed to indicated area to be subjected to equipment check. A measurement certificate shall not be required for participation.
. Racing Area
The racing area will be on Lake Minnetonka. The courses and marks will be described in the Sailing Instructions.
Scoring
The Low Point Scoring System, Appendix A, will be used. nine races are scheduled, of which three must be completed to constitute a Championship. The worst score of a boat will be discarded if six or more races are sailed.
Prizes
Awards will be given to skipper and crew of the top five finishers in the open fleet and the top finishing Youth Team (all aged 22 or younger on the first day of the regatta). The McDonald Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the Open Fleet winner; the Berlin Trophy to the second place finisher and Alpena Cup will be awarded to the Youth division winner. The Leslie Friendship trophy will be awarded as determined in the Sailing Instructions.
Communication Devices
Communication devices may be carried on board while racing. However Competitors shall not transmit, nor receive, with any communication devices, except to request assistance in an emergency, or to report discontinuation of racing, if on-the-water notification is not possible. In the event of such use while racing, the boat shall promptly retire.
The RC will use VHF radio to communicate with competitors while not racing (Prep to finish RRS Definitions) and keep them informed of racing conditions, schedule and postponements. In addition the RC may use VHF as a courtesy to inform competitors of OCS and General Recall. Such communication is not required and failure of the RC to notify via VHF shall not be grounds for redress. Such communication shall be in addition and not in lieu of Race Signals. Such information shall be freely available to all and be in accordance with RRS 41 (c) and not constitute outside help. Competitors are encouraged to bring VHF radios |
